Getting started

What can I expect from a therapy session?

Initial sessions (1–3): During your first few visits, our main focus will be on getting to know each other. You’ll share your story, and together we’ll determine if we’re a good fit. We’ll also set goals and start to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Building a strong rapport is essential for effective therapy, and it sets the foundation for your progress.

The treatment phase: After these initial sessions, we’ll begin actively working on your treatment goals. The approach we take will depend on the challenges you’re facing and the therapeutic techniques best suited to your situation. You’ll work on gaining new insights, learning practical skills, and expressing your emotions — designed to help you make and see progress toward long-term change. I’ll guide you every step of the way, but your own commitment to applying what you learn outside our sessions is crucial to your success.

How do I schedule my first session?

Booking your first session is straightforward and flexible. Simply call, text, or email me and we’ll find a time that works for you. Once we’ve scheduled, I’ll send the paperwork to complete before we meet. I want the process to feel as smooth and comfortable as possible — so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Sessions

How long does each session last, and how often should I attend?

Individual therapy sessions typically last 53 minutes, and I’ll manage the timing so we make the most of our time together. Initially, I recommend weekly sessions for the first two months to establish a solid foundation for our work.

That said, every person’s circumstances — time, finances, preferred frequency — are different. I’m flexible in collaborating with you to build a plan that fits your life and supports your goals.

Working together

What is your experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community?

My engagement with the LGBTQIA+ community began during my internship in 2019 at BYU’s counseling center, where I gained valuable insight into the interplay between faith and sexuality — and the complex dynamics faced by individuals from religious backgrounds that may not align with their identity.

I then spent two years at Flourish Therapy, a practice dedicated exclusively to serving the LGBTQIA+ community. These roles gave me a deep understanding of the unique challenges and journeys within the LGBTQIA+ community, especially in Utah. I’m committed to creating a supportive space that respects and nurtures your individual exploration of identity — whether you’re firmly established in your understanding or just beginning to explore.

Can you tell me about your professional background and areas of expertise?

I hold a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology, completed in 2019. Following graduation, I undertook a ten-month postdoctoral specialization in eating disorders at the University of Nevada–Reno. My commitment to diverse communities guided me to Flourish Therapy, supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, and more recently I’ve served as a therapist at the Center for Change, focusing on eating-disorder treatment.

Beyond eating disorders and LGBTQIA+ care, my experience spans anxiety, depression, low self-worth, women’s issues, trauma, perfectionism, faith and life transitions, and relationship challenges — always with a foundation of understanding and an inclusive environment for every client.

Fees & insurance

What are your fees and do you accept insurance?

Yes, I accept insurance. I’m currently paneled with SelectHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum, and I’m in the process of adding PEHP. If you haven’t met your deductible, you’ll cover a portion of the session fee; once it’s met, your copay typically ranges from $0 to $30.

With insurance, the initial assessment/first session is $185 and subsequent sessions are $175. For those not using insurance, I offer an out-of-pocket rate of $150 per session, and I can provide a superbill to submit for potential reimbursement depending on your plan.

Insurance can be complex — I’m happy to help clarify what you might expect to pay before we begin.
